It’s Not Too Early to Get Your Flu Shot!

Flu shot season is already right around the corner, folks. We know—it’s hard to believe it’s that time of year again! But, alas, here we are, and we’re hopeful to get our flu shot shipment in by mid- to end of August (stay tuned for when exactly you can start making an appointment!). We will have regular and high-dose (65 and older) formulations. If you think getting your flu shot before flu season even begins is crazy, think again…

Why to Get Your Flu Shot Now

The CDC recommends getting your flu shot at the latest by October, but now’s not a bad time to get vaccinated. Upon getting the shot, it can take up to two weeks for the antibodies to take effect in your body, so ensuring you’re protected before flu activity starts—and when it peaks, typically from December to February—is crucial.

Note that if you’re sick, you should wait to get the flu shot, as your body’s weak immune system may have a negative response to the vaccine. So make sure you’re feeling good and healthy on the day of your vaccination appointment!

That said, older, more susceptible folks may want to wait until around September or so, as the vaccine may not provide as much protection in the later flu season months if they get the shot too early. Some may also require a second shot later on. Always consult your doctor on what’s best for you individually!

Whether or not you choose to get the flu shot now or in the fall, it’s recommended for everyone six months and older. About 8% of the country’s population develops the flu every year, and getting vaccinated can protect both you and others from spreading the virus.
