Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀
October is breast cancer awareness month. This is an annual campaign to increase awareness of breast cancer. Most people are aware, but the month is to get people to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages. Early screening saves lives! When detected early, the five-year survival rate is 99%. So, what can you do to get involved?
Learn and Share How to Check For Signs and Symptoms
- A lump or thickening that feels different from the surrounding tissue
- Change in size, shape, or appearance of the breast
- Changes to the skin over the breast
- Pain in any area of the breast
If you have any of these signs or symptoms, be sure to see your doctor right away!
Volunteer
October is usually filled with large runs and walks to raise awareness but this year most events have gone virtual. The American Cancer Society is just one great resource that will help lead you to volunteer opportunities.
Donate
Every little bit counts. If you are not able to give financially, consider donating your time to the cause!
Fundraise
Susan G Komen is a great resource for learning how to start a fundraiser. They will take you step by step on how to set up your project. Your fundraiser will help them support life-saving research, treatment, education, and community health programs.
