Did you know that 501 Pharmacy is a partner with WakeMed’s Mothers’ Milk Bank? This great partnership allows us to offer donor milk for newborns as prescribed by physicians!
Newborns need the best possible nutrition to grow and develop in a healthy manner, and breast milk has life-saving antibodies that help protect babies against disease, illness, and intestinal infections. If, for whatever reason, a mother is unable to provide her own or enough breast milk, or a baby cannot breastfeed, milk donations can be essential. That’s where the Milk Bank comes in!
About the Mothers’ Milk Bank
WakeMed Mothers’ Milk Bank is a nonprofit providing safe, pasteurized donor milk to babies from healthy, approved donors. Donors must complete intake forms, take a thorough questionnaire, and have blood drawn before they are able to donate breast milk. That milk then undergoes multiple lab testing, homogenization to ensure uniform fat distribution, and heat to kill viruses and bacteria.
