And what better time to educate people on them then now?! Here, we hope to educate you on both thyroid cancer and chronic pain so you can recognize the symptoms and discern when you or a loved one needs to get treatment. As always, we are here for any additional questions or assistance you may need! Feel free to give us a call at 984-999-0501 during normal business hours.

Thyroid Cancer

Thyroid cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in the country, and women account for 75% of cases—making it the second-most common cancer for women between the ages of 30 and 39. The rare disease is a growth of cells that starts in the thyroid, a gland located at the base of the neck and regulates bodily functions like breathing, heart rate, weight, digestion, and moods. Sometimes there are no symptoms, while other times people will notice a lump in the neck. Thyroid cancer can also cause swelling, voice changes, and difficulty swallowing. Luckily, most thyroid cancers can be cured with treatment, either surgery, hormone therapy, radiation, and even chemotherapy.

Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is very common, affecting more than 51.6 million Americans. It is categorized by pain that lasts longer than three months, or longer than the average healing period, and can come and go or be continuous, affecting people in several ways—from their ability to work and exercise to even being able to eat. There are many causes, including injury, disease, and psychological factors, or chronic pain can persist after an injury. Chronic pain has also been linked to depression, Alzheimer’s, suicide, and substance use and misuse.
