Participate in National Blood Donor Month!

It’s National Blood Donor Month! The first Blood Donor Month dates back to 1970, and is celebrated each January to pay tribute to blood donors and persuade new donors to participate. If you haven’t already done so, we encourage you to donate blood this month!

The need for blood is great, as every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion. This goes for not only unexpected emergencies like car crashes, but medical treatments like cancer therapies, cardiovascular and orthopedic surgeries, and organ and bone marrow transplants.

65% of Americans are eligible to give blood, meaning you probably can too! In order to donate, you just need to be at least 16 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. On the day of your donation, you should also be free of any infectious diseases, like colds. If you don’t feel well, it’s probably smart to go ahead and reschedule your appointment.

By donating blood, you’re making a big difference in your community, serving as a lifeline for countless individuals in need. Be one of the nearly 7 million people who give blood every year!
