Why You Should Still Get Your Flu Shot

Haven’t got your flu shot yet? There’s still time to do so! Flu cases in North Carolina are rapidly rising, with flu-related deaths reaching 22 by mid-December. And flu season is only poised to ramp up even more as temperatures get colder and colder. As a matter of fact, flu activity typically peaks most often in February.

With that said, it’s important that you get your flu shot if you haven’t already! Many think it’s too late, but you can actually get the shot well into the new year. Plus, the CDC says it’s better to get it late than skip it entirely. Getting vaccinated at any time during flu season can keep you from getting sick and missing work, school, and other social activities.

Even if you do get the shot and still get the flu, the severity of your symptoms will be greatly reduced—and lower your chances of going to the hospital. This especially pertains to children, pregnant women, and older adults. Not to mention the more people are vaccinated, everyone’s risk of exposure is reduced. So getting your shot has a great effect on those around you too!
