Our front door may be closed for walk-in service but the 501 Pharmacy team is still here for you! Here’s a look at what is happening this month. Make sure you are following us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for the latest on store hours, product availability, ice cream pick up, and more.

Current Hours

We are currently open for drive-thru service Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. We are closed on Sundays.

Our Staff

Our staff is using masks and gloves and limiting contact at the drive-thru. We can assure you that we are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of our employees and customers.

Maple View Farm Ice Cream

We are selling pints and quarts of Maple View Farm ice cream through the drive-thru! All orders will be taken over the phone between 9 a.m. and noon, Monday through Friday. Simply give us a call at 984-999-0501 and let us know what time you will be coming to pick up your ice cream. Pickups will be from 1 until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Prepay via credit card, give us your name at the drive-thru and we’ll retrieve it from the freezer. We will not be accepting orders on Saturdays as we close at noon.

Limited-Supply Items

Supplies such as masks, isopropyl alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, aloe vera gel, and gloves are on limited supply. We are doing everything we can to keep them in stock. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to keep up to date with what we have in stock.

Get Your “Hanitizer”

Thanks to one of my fellow pharmacist friends, we have more liters of “Hanitizer” available and we are bottling these as fast as we can!

If we are out of the compounded “Hanitizer,” we should have in some commercially available hand sanitizer ready for purchase.

Purchase Your Over-the-Counter Items at the Drive-Thru

Allergy medicines, creams, ointments, cough medicines, and more. You can get all of your over-the-counter medications just by swinging through the drive-thru.

Cackalacky + Elderberry

Also at the drive-thru, you can stock up on your favorite Cackalacky items including their nuts and hot sauce.

While you are here, ask us to grab you some of our Elderberry products. If you are looking for more ways to fight colds, the flu, and to strengthen your immune system, purchase elderberry syrup from The Elderberry Lady and now Jenn’s Ultimate Elderberry Syrup, both sold at 501 Pharmacy.

Special “Drug Bug” Delivery

If you are in need of prescriptions or over-the-counter medications prescribed during your telemedicine visit, we’ll deliver your medicines free-of-charge within Chapel Hill and Pittsboro. In most cases, we can deliver the medications to you on the same day.

Vaccinations

We are still providing vaccinations as recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. If you are in need of a vaccination, please give us a call at 984-999-0501.

Donate to PORCH

We are collecting food donations for Briar Chapel PORCH – a grassroots hunger-relief organization. Donations go to the Chatham OutReach Alliance (CORA) food pantry and our local schools. Donations are picked up every Friday. Please consider donating if you are able.

CORA accepts donations of shelf-stable foods — canned fruit/vegetables, boxed cereals, rice, pasta, baking mix and shelf-stable specialty items (drink mix, coffee, tea, pancake mix, condiments, herbs and spices, ethnic foods, other pantry staples, etc.). They also accept paper products and some personal hygiene items like toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, disposable razors, etc. For a list of the items that are most needed and the items that we usually have stocked, click here.

Updated Hours + Ice Cream Pick Ups!

Updated Hours Beginning April 13, 2020

We are continuing to take precautionary measures to keep you and our employees safe. On April 13, we will be transitioning our hours. Please see the updated hours below.

Monday through Friday
9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Saturday
9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

In addition to our updated hours, we are now selling pints and quarts of Maple View Farm ice cream through the drive-thru! The outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID‐19) is a rapidly evolving situation and here at 501 Pharmacy – your independent pharmacy at Briar Chapel in Chapel Hill – we understand that getting access to medical care and prescriptions can be challenging when you are doing your best to stay home and do your part to contain the spread. Here is what we are doing right now to make this easier for everyone…

Video-Enabled Visits

IndyCare provides telemedicine video visits for our clients that are available seven days a week. Each medical provider can evaluate you and prescribe medications that 501 Pharmacy can deliver to you or you can pick up conveniently via our drive-through services. These video visits are covered by all insurance plans and Medicare. All you need is a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera and an internet connection.

Special “Drug Bug” Delivery

Flu Tests Now Available via Delivery

If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, your IndyCare medical provider can prescribe a rapid flu test which we will dispense and deliver to you. We will provide instructions on performing the test yourself. If you are concerned about possible Coronavirus infection, a flu test is required first in order to be eligible for COVID-19 testing.

What About COVID-19 Testing?

If you are concerned that you may be infected with the Coronavirus (COVID-19), via our IndyCare provider you have access to a simple text message screening tool that will help guide where you should go for care. Just text “CORONA” to 833-574-0906 and follow the prompts to begin screening.

How can you protect yourself or others from COVID‐19?

Although there are currently no vaccines available to protect against human coronavirus infection, you may be able to reduce your risk of infection by washing your hands often; avoiding touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands; and avoiding close contact with people who are sick. If you have cold-like symptoms, as a courtesy to your co-workers and others, please remain at home while you are sick. If you share a workstation or equipment with others, consider wiping it down with disinfectant wipes after use. For information about hand washing, see the CDC’s Clean Hands Save Lives website.

What should you do if you suspect you or someone else has contracted COVID‐19?

Most people with common human coronavirus illness will recover on their own. Although there are no specific treatments for illnesses caused by human coronaviruses, you can take the following actions to help relieve symptoms if you are mildly sick:

Take pain and fever medications. Ask your pharmacist how they may interact with any medications you currently take. Caution: The CDC and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommend not giving aspirin to children.
Use a room humidifier or take a hot shower to help ease a sore throat and cough.
Drink plenty of liquids.
Stay home and rest.

Who should be tested for COVID‐19?

The CDC recommends that anyone with symptoms of COVID-19, returning from a Centers for Disease Control designated Level 2 or Level 3 advisory area, or who has been in contact with someone who is suspected or confirmed of having the coronavirus within the last 14 days should be tested.

How can I access COVID-19 testing?

Patients who have concerns that they may have been exposed to COVID-19 or may have symptoms of COVID-19 should contact their health care provider. Testing for outpatients is currently very limited and will require an evaluation and referral from a healthcare provider. IndyCare can evaluate you and determine if you qualify for testing and then refer you to local testing options. Please note that you will not be able to get tested for COVID-19 without first going through the required screening to rule out other causes of your symptoms. We want to make things easier on you which is why we are offering free local delivery with all the benefits of working with a local pharmacy. Skip the online ordering and get your prescriptions delivered from our “Drug Bug”!

While we will temporarily close our retail storefront operations, we welcome you to utilize our convenient drive-thru service, as well. Over-the-counter items and ice cream will still be available for our drive-thru customers, as well as prescriptions.

We have taken home the title of “Favorite Pharmacy” for the last three years and we are hoping to go for the four-peat*.
